Anti-semitism hits soccer game between Israel and Netherlands

In what is being termed as “a very violent incident,” of Anti-semitism, on Friday, targeting Israeli citizens at a soccer game between Netherlands and Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered two rescue planes to be sent to Amsterdam. This was done after severe attacks were reported during the match.

The Israeli PMO in its second statement said that it has asked its citizens to stay in their hotel rooms after the attacks happened. The National Security Ministry of Israel according to the PMO stated after the Anti-semitism incident.

Israel`s security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir informed in a post on X, “Fans who went to see a football game encountered anti-Semitism and were attacked with unimaginable cruelty just because of their Jewishness and Israeliness.”

57 arrested so far in the Anti-semitism attacks

The Police said that fans had already left the stadium when clashes were reported at the city center. Even after the city Authorities in Amsterdam forbade pro-Palestine demonstrators from creating any trouble at the game, the latter tried to reach Johan Cruyff Stadium. The authorities stated that 57 people were held after the game was over.

A rescue mission is being prepared by the Israeli military to lift the affected with the help of the Dutch Government. The clashes reportedly occurred after the Europa League game in which Tel Aviv was defeated by Ajax Amsterdam by 5-0.

In a statement, IDF said, “The mission will be deployed using cargo aircraft and include medical and rescue teams.” The social media was rife with a video of a man being beaten by the running crowds through the streets during the Anti-semitism clashes.

While the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs was unable to comment on the statements of the Israeli government, the Netherlands government has been requested by the Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to assist the Israeli citizens in their safe arrival at the airport. Saar told Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp this via phone on Friday.

A statement issued forth by Israel says that tensions had reached a high since the Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing 1,200 Israelis. Taking forcibly more than 250 hostages under custody, Hamas has been only adding fuel to the fire in the Middle East and abroad from Oct. 7 onwards.  

The war in Gaza has forced people in the United States and Europe to protest vehemently when both Arabs and Jews have been severely affected. According to the health officials of the enclave, about 43,469 Palestinians have been killed and 102,561 have been injured since the war in Gaza started. In response to the Hamas attack, Israel’s military offensive has been going on since then, jeopardizing the lives on both sides. 

Politician Geert Wilders said, “Ashamed that this can happen in The Netherlands. Totally unacceptable.” The leader was speaking on behalf of the largest party in the Dutch government, the comments of which he posted on X after the Anti-semitism incident.
