Cher takes legal action amidst concerns for son’s well-being

Singer and TV personality, Cher has filed a case in the court for Conservatorship of Son Elijah. Citing worries about Elijah’s ability to manage his finances by himself due to Elijah Blue Allman’s recent issues with substance usage, Cher has started legal proceedings for his conservatorship.

As per the documents filed in the court, the 77-year-old singer and actress is requesting to be the only conservator of her son’s inheritance. AS per her statement mentioned in the documents, Elijah is substantially unable to manage his financial resources.”

Documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, indicate that Elijah is set to receive assets from a trust by the end of the year. However, Cher contends that because of Elijah’s serious mental health and drug misuse problems, immediate guardianship is required to protect his belongings from possible loss or damage.

According to the filing, Elijah’s former spouse, Marieangela King, has a history of drug use and mental health issues, making her unqualified to act as his conservator.

In the court brief, Cher shares her concern that Elijah, even though he is entitled to regular trust distributions, would instantly waste any money on drugs, depriving him of any means of subsistence and putting his life in jeopardy.

As of the time of reporting, a representative for Cher has not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment. A hearing for a temporary conservatorship order is scheduled for January 5, 2024, with a hearing for a permanent order set for March 6, 2024.

In October, Cher addressed reports surrounding Elijah’s situation, denying allegations that she had hired individuals to forcibly remove him from a New York City hotel room in November 2022.

Rumour had it that Elijah, who has previously spoken candidly about his difficulties with addiction, was the subject of an intervention. Cher emphasized her role as a mother attempting to support her son through his struggles, acknowledging the private family situation but disputing King’s particular assertions.

Cher affirmed her unwavering devotion to her kids in the face of disagreements and past disputes, saying that she will do everything it takes to support them as a mother.
