OPPO intends to integrate the Sony Lytia-900, a state-of-the-art sensor with its latest model
Sony has announced the launch of its much-anticipated camera sensor Lytia-900, which comes with cutting edge in technology in the camera sensor market. The sensor will have a 50MP 1-inch sensor size with a pixel size of 1.6µm, having advanced capability in capturing ultra-light shadow images due to its varied dynamic range. OPPO has come forward and announced to make use of this technology in their upcoming model.
The Lytia-900 utilizes stacked CMOS technology, which makes sure that it has separate layers, one each for the transistor and a photodiode. This drastically enhances the overall efficiency of the sensor. This means that the sensor can now be stacked with a larger diode allowing for a superior light capture. Its predecessors, the Sony IMX989 sensor which was used in the Xiaomi 13 ultra and Vivo X90 Pro, was already believed to be of great quality. But the Lytia-900 is going to surpass these standards this time.
The new Lytia-900 sensor incorporates the Dual Conversion Gain (DCG) that adjusts between the high gain (HC) and low gain (LG) modes based on the ambient light changes. This ensures magnificent image quality as this mechanism optimizes the sensor’s dynamic range and noise performance. The manufacturing process has been efficient in the sense that it upgraded from 40nm (Sony IMX989) to an impressive 22nm. It is due to the relentless effort by Sony towards achieving the company objective of “efficiency” in the nanometer game, that the power consumption is substantially reduced in the upcoming sensor.
The official release from Sony is still pending, but the details were made public through a promotional poster by the “Sony Semiconductor-Lytia” Weibo account. It is worth mentioning that Sony’s official accounts on Weibo are presently banned, because of the allegations that they have insulted a Chinese soldier who was martyred during the Korean War.
Further, OPPO has announced that their latest, Find X7 series will introduce the Find X7 Ultra variant replacing the Pro model, which was expected previously in China. The big and standout feature of this new model will be the integration of the Sony LYT-900 camera sensor. OPPO intends to utilize Lytia’s advanced image capabilities of capturing ultra-low light and shadow images, due to its substantial dynamic range and varying optical zoom capabilities.
Find X7 Pro from OPPO is going to constitute of a quad-camera setup, that includes the LYT-900 sensor from Sony. Having a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and two telephoto lenses with 3x and 6x optical zoom, the new variant is going to be quite a thing to boast of. OPPO intends to launch it in January 2024,
Other than OPPO, some of the other models to get the LYT-900 sensor include Xiaomi 14 ultra and Vivo X100 Pro+. Though the Vivo X100 Pro+ has already been delayed, the Xiaomi flagship is probably going to be launched in April next year along with the Xiaomi Pad7 and Xiaomi Mix Flip.
