For some workers it a great relief from their doggedly pursued vocations, when it will be a three-day off for them. Each year the day falls on Nov.11 and is nowadays, observed as Veterans Day, a much-honored federal holiday for the living veterans who served in the National Army.

The weekend is, however, always reserved as the monthly holiday days, even if that means shifting Nov. 11 a day before or after. Many schools aren`t required to remain closed and choice has been given to decide for either of the two as the Veterans Day isn’t looked upon as a “legal school holiday.” The Illinois State Board of Education says that the day might be earmarked as “Not in Attendance” day, which means no students are engaged in learning as determined by the local school board.
The Chicago Public Schools 2024-25 calendar shows non-observance of Veterans Day as a holiday. Meanwhile, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, Lincoln’s Birthday, Casmir Pulaski Day and Columbus Day are included in other “Not in Attendance” days.
