Shocking: The cause of ‘Friends’ star, Matthew Perry’s death announced!
After doctors reveal the actual cause of death of the actor Matthew Perry, one is compelled to ponder the fact of how bizarre life, or rather death, can get. The therapy that is supposed to get people healed can take their lives. Yes, you heard it right. Ketamine is the substance that is being held responsible for the death of the star.
On Friday, the Los Angeles County coroner named ‘the acute effects of the anesthetic Ketamine’ as the cause of Matthew Perry’s death on October 28th, 2023. The report came after nearly two months of the 54-year-old actor.
As per the reports, Perry was on ketamine infusion therapy and had gotten his ketamine infusion done just one and a half months before his death. Also, it was reported that he drowned in the ‘heated end of his pool’. Some more causes that were given were coronary artery disease and buprenorphine (which is mostly used to treat opioid use disorder). However, these factors were not related to the immediate cause of his death.
But again, the medical examiner who did his autopsy concluded that the presence of ketamine in his body could not have been from that infusion, which he took, as the half-life of the substance is only three or four hours.
Perry lived in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, where he was declared dead after being found not responding to anything. The autopsy on him was done the next day.
It was reported that the deceased actor was reportedly clean for the last 19 months, even though he had taken drugs in the past. Suffering from depression and anxiety, he was advised to undergo ketamine infusion therapy, which is supposed to heal the person affected by the said condition. His last treatment was one and a half months before his death. The actor had even played pickleball earlier in the day and seemed normal. Later, his assistant found him dead, lying down in the pool.
Now this makes us think about what ketamine is and what it does to our body. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved ketamine in the ’70s as a rapid-action anesthesia for getting patients cured. In the recent past, off-label ketamine has been used to treat depression and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), both considered psychological disorders.
Usually, taking ketamine therapy speeds up the process of reducing symptoms. It has been reported to show improvements in just 24 hours as compared to a normal anti-depressant, which takes about two months to do so. According to the American Addiction Centers, if a person is only taking ketamine therapy, the chances of death due to this substance are rare. However, this therapy should not be taken by a person suffering from schizophrenia or a psychiatric illness.
