Biffle Refuses to Hit Daytona 500 Unless Dues Paid
Greg Biffle has a car prepared for the Daytona 500, but he asserts that he will not take the wheel unless he receives payment owed from the 2022 season. Following rumors of his attendance at Daytona, the 54-year-old veteran of NASCAR spoke out on social media regarding his involvement in this weekend’s race.
In a recent statement, Biffle clarified that he will not be participating in the 2024 Daytona 500 or any NASCAR races until he resolves unmet contractual obligations from 2022, both for himself and the team. He expressed disappointment in not being able to compete in the coveted race this year due to these outstanding issues.
He wrote, “While I had hoped to be running in the 2024 Daytona 500 this year, that will not be happening. Due to unfulfilled contract obligations from 2022 for myself and the team, I have made a hard decision to not participate in any races, until the prior contract obligations have been fulfilled.”
Adding further to the statement, Biffle wrote, “I wish the team all the best, and hopefully I will have the opportunity to race again and win this coveted race,”.
Biffle, a former Busch Series champion (now the Xfinity Series), boasts 19 Cup Series wins in his career and was recognized in 2023 as one of the “NASCAR 75 Greatest Drivers.”
Having transitioned to a part-time driver since the 2016 season, Biffle’s last race was at the 2022 Geico 500 at Talladega, driving for the NY Racing Team. While initially set to drive for the same team this year, his current decision seems to put a pause on that possibility for the time being.
