BYD Seal: Redefining Drive with Power & Elegance

With the launch of the BYD Seal, a new electric vehicle, Chinese automaker BYD is taking a risky step to take on well-known European automakers. The vehicle is targeted at the electric car market, say Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Loniq 6 or for that matter BMW 14. That is the reason for it being offered as a premiere model. This is in line with BYD’s plan to improve its electric product lineup internationally.

Following the successful introduction of the Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin hatchback, the BYD Seal is the third electric vehicle launched by the company in the UK in 2023. Presented as a car with a sophisticated style, the Seal is a “generation next” car in real terms. This particular car redefines BYD’s commitment of delivering high-end and high-performance cars, across diverse segments of the car market.

Sharing the e-Platform 3.0 with the Atto 3 and Dolphin, the BYD Seal stands out with its larger 82.5kWh battery pack, contributing to impressive performance metrics. The Design version, featuring a single-motor rear-wheel drive, boasts a range of 354 miles and accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds. The Excellence model, with dual motors and all-wheel drive, generates 530PS with a range of 323 miles and a 3.8-second acceleration capability.

The Seal’s interior features quilted vegan leather seats, a full-length panoramic roof, and the e-Platform 3.0 infotainment system with a 15.6-inch rotating display. Although the entertainment system has certain shortcomings, the car has plenty of storage space and legroom, which improves its overall use.

Safety is a priority for BYD Seal, equipped with advanced driver assistance systems and achieving a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. The car’s structural benefits and CTB technology contribute to high scores in adult occupant protection (89%) and child protection (87%).

The Seal accommodates varying driving tastes with its two drive options and well-tuned suspension system for a pleasurable ride.. Despite road noise in the all-wheel-drive model, the Seal’s stability, grip, and adaptability under challenging road conditions impress.

In terms of range and charging, the BYD Seal offers two versions with competitive WLTP ranges of up to 354 miles and 323 miles, respectively. The Blade battery allows for an 11 kW onboard charger for AC charging and a fast charge option of up to 150 kW, enabling a 26-minute charge from 30% to 80%.

While the BYD Seal faces competition from established brands, its performance, safety features, and charging capabilities make it a compelling addition to the electric vehicle market, appealing to drivers seeking sophistication and cutting-edge technology.
